“Following suit from the French Gendarmerie, who has been using the system for more than 2 years, the French Scientific Police have acquired the software for speaker recognition called
BATVOX, a few weeks ago” says French newspaper “Le Figaro” - April 13th 2010 issue, covering the AGNITIO product.
“This system has come from Spain, a country which has been at the leading edge of this technology for more than 10 years. We believe it has a very promising future.
Currently, we use the solution for a dozen cases a year. It is used, not only for small crimes but also for prank calls and terrorism, explains Captain Laurent Chartier, Chief of the “Signal, Image and Voice” department of the Criminal Investigation Institute of the French Gendarmerie (IRCGN) at Rosny-Sous-Bois, France.”
“It was verified that BATVOX does not fail with impersonators. In order to check this, the voice of Nicolas Sarkozy was compared with the voice of several impersonators. Result: Impersonators still have room for improvement. They can impress the public, but they cannot fake the system.
Voice has invariable information, remarks Patrick Guyonneau, Chief Engineer of the Internal Security Technology Service.”
