FROST & SULLIVAN WHITEPAPER: Spanish Police - GUARDIA CIVIL Implements AGNITIO'S Voice Verification Biometrics to Identify Criminals
28/02/2007
The Voice Biometrics System developed by AGNITIO used by GUARDIA CIVIL from Spain, is the first of its kind installed at full scale by a police force worldwide. It is called SAIVOX (Sistema Automatico de Identificacion por Voz) and it is also known as ASIS (Automatic Speaker Identification System).
It has a competitive advantage over other biometric technologies for remote authentication for non-co-operative criminal investigations. It is ideally suited as a unique biometric measure to verify the identity of suspects using intercepted telephone conversations including individuals involved in drug trafficking deals, bomb threats, kidnapping threats and terrorism.
"We have always supported Automatic Speaker recognition in our forensic laboratories. SAIVOX was the natural extension of the technologies we use. We are proud to be the first police organization implementing this type of system...the potential of this system is wide-reaching and the benefits multi-fold" said Major Jose Lucena of GUARDIA CIVIL.
‘‘Automatic Speaker Identification Systems, such as SAIVOX in the Guardia Civil opens a completely new opportunity to scientific police and intelligence organizations. Numerous
government organizations in the world are now planning to implement similar systems. In the short to medium term it will become a ‘‘must have’’ for all criminal investigation units,’’ said Emilio Martinez, CEO of AGNITIO.
